“Farming the rich soil of human trauma to grow harvests of creative abundance that nurture community service.”
Seeking Seed Partners Willing to Work for the Long Haul
We’re looking for resources, partnerships, funding, or connections that will help us bring the vision to life faster and with less cost than we could on our own.

Our vision:
Harvesting the infinite possibilities of human creative expression for maximum social benefit.
Our focus:
Healing mental health problems through creative arts and community service by helping people find their purpose, build a vision, and connect through community service.
Our mission:
To provide a nurturing environment where artists can transform trauma into creativity—and creativity into community impact.
Why Des Moines?
Sitting at the center of America’s heartland – the buckle of I-80 and I-35 – it’s rooted in farming, faith, and fellowship. Often overlooked and undervalued, much like the creative community itself, it’s the perfect place to plant a vision that requires patience, process, and careful planning to ensure a healthy harvest.
Why Now?
The mental health crisis in America is escalating, with over 25% of the population directly affected—and fewer than half able to access the help they need. The shortage of licensed therapists, coupled with the high cost of care, leaves millions without support. Without creative, scalable interventions, this crisis will continue to deepen.
Why Creativity Is the Key
Creativity is often overlooked in the conversation around mental health because it doesn’t come in a bottle, require a license, or depend on hospital beds. But creativity has the power to do something most treatments can’t:
It helps the traumatized heart and the frightened mind re-establish healthy communication and rebuild trust.
When the inside of a person’s mind is at peace, they are far more capable of making peace with the world around them.
Creative expression also builds bridges of empathy. Whether through a poem, a painting, a song, or a story, it invites people to experience the world through someone else’s eyes. That shared humanity is a vital step toward healing—not just individuals, but communities.
A $22 Million Dollar Solution to a $300 Billion a Year Problem
Untreated mental health issues don’t just affect individuals. They result in:
- Lost productivity due to absenteeism and presenteeism
- Skyrocketing healthcare costs tied to chronic stress-related illness
- Higher rates of homelessness, incarceration, and unemployment
- A deepening opioid crisis and escalating rates of domestic abuse
- Overburdened emergency rooms, law enforcement, and social services
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), these combined effects cost the U.S. economy over $300 billion each year.
Our project—the Greater Des Moines Creative Arts Retreat & Rehabilitation Center—is a $22 million solution that addresses the root causes of this crisis through a sustainable model of creative recovery. It’s not just an act of compassion—it’s a financially responsible intervention.

Building in Stages
Stage 1: Development, Recording, and Direct Sales of Retreat Content (2025 – Cost to Develop: $5,000)
We begin by putting together a series of “retreat-in-a-box” packages – everything needed to host their own creative retreats at home. These boxed experiences provide personal transformation while generating early revenue and awareness for the long-term vision.
Stage 2: Land Acquisition (2026 – Funds to Raise: $2,500,000 for 40 acres of land)
Once the money is raised to purchase the land, we begin offering camping spots with the retreat guidance for $25 per night until we raise the funds to build out the next stage.
Stage 3: Tiny House and Conference Center Builds (2028 – Funds to Raise: $4,000,000 for 65 furnished tiny houses and the conference center with commercial kitchen)
As the tiny houses are built, they are rented for $75 per night per house and campground retreats are continued to be offered until the funds are raised to build the artistic development center.
Stage 4: Artistic Development Center (2031 – Funds to Raise: $3.5 Million)
The Artistic Development Center includes:
- Recording, broadcast, art, music, dance, movie, and game development studios
- Weaving, sewing, and textile design work spaces
- Luthier, woodworking, stone cutting, and carpentry areas
- Pottery kiln, jewelry crafting stations, and a forge for blacksmithing
Artists are encouraged to record their work at the center to assist with marketing and promotion and to develop their first funding opportunities.
Stage 5: Shopping Areas (2033 – Funds to Raise: $1.5 Million)
Shops are built where artists can sell their content to outside visitors who are attracted by the performances and the opportunities to attend classes which visiting artists are encouraged to host as part of their training in making their work more profitable.
Stage 6: Performance Hall (2035 – Funds to Raise: $10.5 Million)
Collaborative work created by artists of all kinds and the writers who participate is made available to the public for their consumption with proceeds from the ticket sales being split between the artists and the center.
